Minor service

minor service for a car typically involves basic maintenance and checks to ensure that the vehicle is running smoothly. The specifics may vary depending on the car model, manufacturer, and the service provider, but a standard minor service generally includes the following:

1.Oil and Oil Filter Change:

  • Replacing the engine oil and oil filter to ensure proper engine lubrication and performance.

2. Fluid Levels Check:

  • Checking and topping up essential fluids like brake fluid, coolant, power steering fluid, transmission fluid, and windshield washer fluid.

3. Air Filter Replacement:

  • Checking the engine air filter for dirt and replacing it if necessary to ensure proper air intake.

4. Brake Inspection:

  • A visual check of the brake pads, rotors, and brake fluid levels to ensure the braking system is functioning properly.

5. Tire Inspection and Pressure Check:

  • Checking the tire tread for wear and ensuring the tires are inflated to the correct pressure.

6. Lights Check:

  • Ensuring that headlights, brake lights, turn signals, and other electrical systems are working properly.

7. Wiper Blade Inspection:

  • Checking the condition of the wiper blades and replacing them if necessary.

8. Battery Check:

  • Inspecting the battery for any signs of corrosion or leakage and checking the charge.

9. General Visual Inspection:

  • Checking for any visible wear and tear on components like belts, hoses, and suspension.

10. Resetting the Service Light:

  • If applicable, resetting the service indicator on the dashboard after the service has been completed.

A minor service is typically performed more frequently than a major service and can help maintain the longevity and performance of the car without the need for major repairs.

Major service

major service for a car is more comprehensive than a minor service and usually occurs every 30,000  (or as recommended by the manufacturer). It often includes more in-depth checks, replacements, and adjustments to ensure the car remains in good condition. A major service typically involves the following:

1. Oil Change and Oil Filter Replacement:

Similar to a minor service, but may include a more detailed inspection of the engine components.

2. Air Filter Replacement:

Replacing the engine air filter if it’s clogged or dirty to ensure efficient engine performance.

3. Spark Plug Replacement:

Replacing worn-out spark plugs to improve engine efficiency, fuel economy, and prevent misfires.

4. Fuel Filter Replacement:

Replacing the fuel filter to ensure clean fuel flow to the engine, improving overall performance and longevity.

5. Brake System Inspection and Service:

In addition to the minor service check, a major service might involve inspecting brake pads, rotors, brake fluid, and even bleeding the brake system if needed.

6. Coolant/Antifreeze check:

Ensuring the coolant level is within the recommended range on the reservoir and also testing the concentration levels

7. Inspection of Belts and Hoses:

Checking for wear and tear on belts (like serpentine belts) and hoses, which can affect various engine systems. These may be replaced if necessary.

8. Power Steering Fluid Check:

Checking the power steering fluid and replacing it if it’s contaminated, ensuring smooth steering operation.

9. Suspension System Check:

Inspecting the suspension components such as shocks, struts, and bushings for wear or damage.

10. Battery Check and Cleaning:

Inspecting the battery’s charge and terminals, cleaning off corrosion, and ensuring the battery is functioning properly.

11 Cabin Air Filter Replacement:

Replacing the cabin filter to ensure clean air circulation inside the car.

12. Exhaust System Inspection:

Checking the exhaust system for leaks, rust, or damage, which can affect performance and emissions.

13. Fluid Leak Checks:

A thorough check for any fluid leaks from components such as the engine, transmission, or differential.

14. Comprehensive Vehicle Inspection:

A complete visual and diagnostic inspection of key components, including suspension, exhaust, steering, and drivetrain systems.

15. Resetting the Service Indicator:

After the major service, the service light or maintenance reminder is reset.

Additional Considerations:

Diagnostic Scan: A full diagnostic scan may be run to check the onboard computer for any trouble codes or potential issues.

A major service is designed to keep your vehicle running optimally over the long term. It may be more expensive due to the increased parts replacement and labour involved, but it’s essential for the car’s longevity and safety.
